The Purdie Mute is a new idea in trumpet mutes, invented and patented by Tom Purdie, 1st Trumpet of the Vallodolid (Spain) Symphony Orchestra, and produced by Tom Crown. The lacquered brass disk fits over the bell of the trumpet and softens and mellows the tone. It is ideal in situations where a hat is indicated, such as George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" or the "Concerto in F". It also works well to produce a Post Horn or Flugelhorn sound and can be used for the Post Horn solo of Mahler's 3rd Symphony. Very well suited for jazz applications as well. |
